Jerry Malugeon: Mood disorders, relapse and successful recovery have all been a part of Jerry’s life. As in nearly all families, life has had its challenges. After a thirty-year career in health care, Jerry joined a Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance (DBSA) family support group and began ongoing education programs with National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI).*** Now, as manager of a busy DBSA Resource Center in Orange County, CA and editor of its newsletter, The Rollercoaster Times, Jerry has helped hundreds of family members, companions and caregivers assisting loved ones suffering from mental illnesses. His education and research, along with his own personal and family experiences, have been enriching although sometimes heart-rending experiences.*** There are no easy answers in helping a loved one in the grips of a serious brain illness, but there are many choices a family member or companion can make. In his book the author discusses quite a large number of them.*** Jerry is committed to helping families, companions and caregivers discover available choices that can be beneficial to a loved one’s recovery, and put those choices to successful and rewarding use.
